As long as the NSCL wishes to remain with BCSA and play in provincials, and the current exec of Miller's remains in place, then a merger with Miller's league will not happen....two completely different philosophies and Miller's wants nothing to do with BCSA. We have been down this road before. Our first goal is to ensure that the league has a solid base, then grow from there. This is what we have for this year, for better or worse. lupoman doublemartinitime

I didn't know that the Miller's league had different views on how things are done. Maybe instead of approaching the executives the NSCL should approach the teams directly.
I think the big selling point of the NSCL is the BCSA. I would assume the reason the better talent is here is because of provincial berths and maybe this could be used to attract some of the teams to at least get this one back to ten and preserve the two spots we have since one was just taken away.
I believe more teams would leave without the BCSA affiliation.

spqr, I personally agree with you here, Lupoman, have to give you credit as for the first time in a while for once someone from the executive board is on here letting people know what's going on. You are right about the Millar's league having different philosophies. The whole reason Roma wanted to come and join this league was for the opportunity to have a chance at Provincials. We had options to go to the VMSL but would have had to start at the bottom and work our way up. in the VMSL and FVSL both of these leagues the lower level divisions don't even get a chance to try and earn a spot for the BC's. The likely hood of any team making it would be pretty slim anyways. The Div 1 teams at least get a chance but in saying that they have to go to war every game during their respective league Cups and have to be a finalist to knock out one of the berths from their respective Premier divisions. This league I believe can still attract teams, maybe go after some teams in Div 1 masters from the VMSL or even Div 2. Spqr is also correct in that some times as a league we need to go and approach teams individually and sell what this league has to offer. I know personally it's hard to attract players at times, but my selling point is letting people know that this league had 3 spots and it was almost like a back door way to possibly get in. In saying that I know not every one gives a sh*t about stuff like that, but at the end of the day, I believe most people want to play and enjoy a few drinks after the game. looking at this league I would say that there are at least 5 teams who want to win more than they care to lose. If the league can keep a strong 8 teams this year and start recruiting some individual teams, it will have a strong chance to bounce back. Roma was asked two weeks ago to join the FVSL master's premier division after White Rock dropped out, for our team it was a good opportunity to get into an established league with out starting at the bottom. At the time Warriors were still in this league, for what it is worth as much as some people may dislike myself or Roma, we chose not to leave because we want to see the league survive. We are very happy to be here, although at times I admit I don't agree with some of the decisions made by the exec's. Lupoman is correct though in that we all need to work TOGETHER in keeping this league going. Sad to see NAFC drop out as they do make this league a better one, especially with all the work, effort and time that BT has put into his team. I feel his players(not all of them) sold him out. Hard to believe that the guys leaving didn't know any of this in July while they were still playing in the summer league together. At least with some sort of heads up, he would of had a chance to maybe make something work out. As for this weekends games Roma better be playing. As our team is starting to get a complex now. This is the second week in a row where the team they are suppose to play has folded!!

where are all the nafc guys going? 22nd Lions? Surely not enough room for all of them out there John/Zdravko/Theo will all be huge pic up for someone...Maybe a merge with Nordic

Nordic apparently picked up a bunch of Warriors but the NAFC guys would be a decent addition to any of our member clubs, mostly those in need.

I ran Lupo ( Warriors platform ) for almost 20 years. I would go into seasons with 20 to 25 guys committed on paper, only to find out I had about 14 by the time training started. Players do not have contracts and during the off season can come and go as they please, as all the team managers out there know. It is not the fault of the Warriors management or NAFC that their players went else where. I think just all the stars lining up wrong all at once.
as a sidebar...the exec often does not often have the opportunity to have lengthy discussions on issues affecting the league. We get information from the teams and more often than not only have time for a ten minute discussion so we can get the information out to the teams as soon as possible. Honestly, some days I think herding cats would be easier. Anyway, despite the recent losses of teams, I believe the league is still in good shape, and we have a solid base to build from, we have been here before..we will succeed.

Forgot one bit...or maybe two.....it has never been this league's policy to poach teams from other leagues....just bad karma in my opinion...what goes around comes around. Also, we have to present our rosters to the North Vancouver Recreation Commission ever season, and have to show them we have 75% of this league living or working in North Vancouver. Teams from outside North Van make that damn near impossible. lupoman okenoughtimeforonemoremartini

oh yeah, one more side bar, the league is in fact trying to make sure Roma does not get to play a game this year by insuring every team they are scheduled to play folds. Just thought you should know. ;D lupoman lovethosemartinis ;D

Just looked at the schedule, January 15 last scheduled game day of the season? Even if we miss a couple of weeks due to weather that will bring us to beginning of February. That's a big gap between winter season and summer season.

That's a big gap between winter season and summer season. That is why, at the league meeting, I raised the point of not having to play any make-up games right away. If you queue them up and play them at the end of the regular schedule you may get another 3 or 4 (or more) weeks of play. The league could also revert to a traditional league cup where all teams go into a draw. Winners advance and losers are out. This would be in addition to the Kilby/Jim Lowe cups. The point here is just to get more games.

I think this is a great option, I'm sure all league managers could bring this to the exec's and we could get it voted in!!

It's not to late for the managers and exec's to vote to change this. Is it?

yes you are correct spqr!
Gotta admit the scheduler was pretty tough on Roma, as not only do we play 3 games in a week, but find it interesting that we match up against Norvan, CV United and Howe Sound all within a week. Our season start could be very costly and all of this to happen over 7 days! But no point complaining as we have come to expect this, should be an interesting week. I personally believe the top 4 teams in this league are going to be CV United, Norvan, Howe Sound and hopefully Roma. Not sure what order it will be in but I would give the pre-season pick to CV united!! Heard Norvan had picked up 3 or 4 quality players to already go with their league winning team from last year!! Good luck to everyone this weekend!
