CV United 5 ? - NAFC 1
The boys in blue were short a few bodies and Fryeside had plenty of subs
Word is NAFC had a number of guys who couldn't make it and that CV United benefited from their new fitness warm up from Thursdays unorthodox training session
No pulled muscles and everyone was pretty limber

Okay, seriously? No updates to schedule? No wonder this league is going downhill fast!

Easy big fella. You will have a bye just like everyone else. You will play on the dates that the schedule says and will not play on long weekends.
We all have commitments on the weekend but I am sure Gilles will be able to schedule you for your pedicure on short notice.

Dirty stinky, I have to agree with Norvanman on this one! Let's all face the facts that it is now Sept 19th/11 and still a 3 game schedule has only been posted??? DS your great insight on the fact that teams " will play on the dates that the schedule says" is to be honest, horse sh*t! Is this like when I need Telus to come by my house they give me a time frame window of being at my house any where from 9am-4:30pm and that some needs to be home. To be honest every one here wants to play but the same time most people probably have other obligations and committments that they need to work around to play the game. Heck trying to get any information from the league is worse than trying to get info from wife on what she spent $800 on my Visa for! ;D The guy from Howe Sound offered to do up the schedule at the managers meeting, and I'm sure as busy as he is, that there is no doubt that the full schedule would have been up 10 days ago. The one thing I did notice with the 3 game schedule is that Coveside is back to their regular time slot of 10:45am games at Confederation! Congrats to those who won on the weekend and by looking at the game scores doesn't look like there was any competitive games more or less lopsided scores. Game of the week for this weekend has to be Norvan reigning league Champs vs the newly merged CV United who was my preseason pick to win it all!! BTW Dirty Stinky have to admit I watched CV United training video about 3 times until my daughter walked in the office and asked what I was watching!! lol

I agree with you about the schedule but there is no point in worrying about what you can't control. You can be like the Dalai Lama or like the other guy who missed the point Anyway glad to be back playing after the debacle of last season. We should all focus on the positive and when things get you down just visualize "call on me" tomorrow morning as the Horton's Hottie pours your large "double double" - it works for me, because all I see is the hair flick at 1:52 of the video rather than the hairnet and the brown uni when the lovely girl gives me my change. Remember You can change how you feel about a situation by changing your point of view.

Honestly this league needs to wake up...we can't keep losing teams without re-supplying new ones
millars league in now better run than this...lost the warriors, coveside/vikings merge, no new teams
probably time to take action before its too late

Honestly this league needs to wake up...we can't keep losing teams without re-supplying new ones I think it is important that everyone recognizes that "this league" should include not just the executive, but the mgmt tier of each of the clubs(ensuring a roster with enough depth, and the proper amount of refresh). Another issue affecting the league is the fact that their are 3 leagues competing in this space(NSCL, Millars, VMSL). I would also hazard to guess that housing prices may be playing a role in reduced prospects. With some of the results this weekend and some further rumblings/conjecture things might get worse before they get better. A retraction in the number of teams may not be a bad thing if the overall player personnel trend amongst the teams does not support the number of teams. Their is definitely work for the executive as there is an accumulating mass of dark clouds overhead. They do not have a magic wand and it is up to the members to help drive quality and consistency. It is always easier to call things out then it is to find(or work on) the solution.

bonefish you bring up a great point and you are correct!
I don't disagree here but when we were at the managers meeting and some managers would bring up points or solutions everything seem to get deferred from the Treasurer to the President or vice President. Which isn't a bad thing, but when neither of the other two are at the meeting, then again nothing can be worked on! Like I said earlier, HS manager was willing to do up the schedule, but he was told that the President would be the one to act on this. To lose a team like the Warriors isn't n necessarily a bad thing, as they have been consistently one of the weaker teams. It's when you lose teams like Coveside and potentially Nordic, Roma and NAFC that scares me. Bonefish brings up another good point about other leagues being a competition in trying to attract players and teams. I know for sure that Roma and NAFC are battling to keep players on their team and not jumping ship to go and join teams in the VMSL.Which is already a very hard sell at times. When their is still no schedule, playing a first league game in late September compared to other leagues already playing their 3rd game, I ask how much more can I be positive. Dirty Stinky you are right in a lot of things that we can't control and for us just to worry about what we can do and to keep positive. In saying that i know for us (Roma) we have lost 6 players to the VMSL. I'm happy that we still have enough to field a team, but in saying that with 22nd ave Lions newly promoted to VMSL master's Premier and playing Friday night games, I have about 3 or 4 guys who are getting asked to come there to play. I continually bust balls to keep my team afloat. Only time will tell I guess on as to what happens, but I do know it's hard to keep guys motivated when we aren't playing any games that matter!

Just heard from the league president that NAFC have also withdrawn due to lack of players.
The schedule will be adjusted and hopefully we'll have something out tomorrow.

Maybe NAFC and Warriors can salvage something and join forces? I'm sure that thought has already been floated and didn't work out.
Sad to see them go and sad to see that teams are having trouble attracting players.
At least there are no bye's now!!!!

my two cents worth.....the merger of Coveside and Vikings should be viewed as a good thing, it created one strong team out of two struggling ones. This scenario is not always an option, not everyone is prepared to play with a half team of new guys. Took a lot of effort on the part of new CV management. The executive was blidesided by both the Warriors and NAFC collapse, we were in talks with the Warriors about the money their club owed the league when we were infomed that it was likely that they were pulling the plug. The exec found out yesterday that NAFC was officially in trouble, and team management confirmed that today. In both cases the rest of the league was informed within hours. We do not and will not report on rumour. We have to wait until we get official word from teams about their status before we can let the rest of the league know. Sorry, we do not have a crystal ball, we do not read minds. Demograghics does work against this league as well as Miller's and VMSL. Millars over 30's has shrunk over the last few years as well, there are just too many teams and not enough players for our age bracket. To suggest that the league can just go out and "get" new teams, well that is much harder than it would seem.....truth is over the last 14 years this league has only had 4 new teams, Lupo ( former Warriors base ) Coveside, Guardians (a seymour off shoot ) and Roma who left Millars. We the league, that's everyone, need to work together on these issues. Panic will not help. We still have 8 solid teams, a good base to work from. Revised schedule will be out shortly, and input from the league base is alway's appreciated. These are difficult times for the league, but working together we will get through and succeed.

This is crazy, how does a team fold a few weeks into the season.
It's sad to see NAFC leave the NSCL after they just won the summer title. I wish Brian the best, he's a good dude and worked very hard for his team. I wish there was some way NAFC could stick around because they were an asset to the league.
This could be end of the NSCL as we know it.
I'm sure by this time next year another team or two will be gone.
I can understand the numbers game on the North Shore but it's not much of an excuse. If numbers are down the league should contact the Millars League about a possible merger or the league could go out and recruit new teams from out of district to draw them over similar to the FVSL.
Sitting around waiting for things to happen will solve nothing.
Whatever, time will tell...
Norvan 2 - CV 4 LV 3 - Guardians 1 Roma 2 - Nordic 2 Seymour 2 - Howe Sound 5

As far as merging with Millar's league - I could see this as a possibility but I think it would be far easier to merge with VMSL. At least there would be some commonality re: Sunday games, etc. Millar's plays Saturdays and one night a week, I think. Plus they're crap.
I just don't see how it's possible to recruit a new team, especially if it's from somewhere other than the North Shore. The whole point of this league in the first place is all the North Shore based players that wanted to play o-30's (this was before Millar's had o-30's). What other incentive is there for a team to join a league anyway? If it's competition then VMSL (or FVSL) is the way to go. Otherwise, teams want to play where they're based. That's why all the local leagues exist.
