Pretty quiet on the forum given the proximity of the opening day. The managers meeting was held last night and there are no big changes afoot from a league perspective. At the team level it seems that there is some flux with at least three sides that have finished in the top half of the table over the past couple of years(Roma,Vikings,NAFC). Along with that everyone is 1yr older so it should be an interesting start to the new season.
MOTW would appear to be the revamped NAFC and perennial powerhouse coveside.
Good Luck To All!

With the season only 3 days away...It has been very quiet
Any new looks to teams this year? Is Coveside even stronger than last year? How about Vikings, same as last? Roma? Sounds like NAFC is revamping or is it their summer team? Nordic?

The team to beat this year will be the new look NAFC. They have signed quite a bit of talent from the VMSL Masters. Not sure if it is just rumours or what but Vikings have lost some talent to a new Masters team in the VMSL. Does Nordic go undefeated this season?? I think NOT as NAFC is looking to get some revenge against them this year!! Roma has lost a few players this year. A huge loss to Roma has their Captain on the injured list for most likely the whole year. We all know what happened to the Vikings last year when there captain went down with an injury!! My picks for this week are Vikings in a close one over Seymour Malones and Nordic in a tie Norvan over LV Game of the week is NAFC over Coveside!!
Good luck to everyone on a new year!!!

I also heard NAFC was able to keep a few guys from their summer team while adding some VMSL players. I heard Roma added some midfielders from PCOV(VMSL) as well as a former 86er up front. That will be a deadly combo with Roma's #15. I'm sure Coveside added a couple as they are always a first class team. I heard Viking are big trouble this year as they lost a few players to the VMSL. I read this stuff on TTP. As for the rest of the leaguem, who knows. I'm jumping on the Roma bandwagon this year ;D

Coveside has added some depth after losing Babu to injury.

wow all this NAFC talk?!?..well its true we have a few new signings this year and some old players coming back....should have summer team in tact - 1 player whos stayed with westside. will it be enough to put us over the top? wait and see....there is a lot of soccer to play and the top 4-5 teams in this league are very competetive and fairly equally matched. Our goal is to finish top 3 this year and maybe win some league hardware!?! Roma has almost picked up as many Cliff guys as us..with couple good (albeit small and injury prone) forwards and a top tier keeper finally...conductor always has his hand in the cookie jar...
Roma, Coveside, NAFC and Nordic will battle for top spots LV, Howe Sound, Novan and Frybe will battle for the last 2 spots in div 1 Seymour, Warriers, and Guardians will continue in Div 2
little early for predictions well see after a few games who actually turns up for games and who the top teams are...good luck to all

NAFC 1 CovesideFC Nil
Tough loss today for the boys in green. Good win for NAFC. Looked like it was going to end in a goaless draw even though each side had their chances.
The league will be more competitive this year as some teams have bolstered their squads while others have lost players to old age.
Coveside held their own for most of the game with the odd chance while NAFC seemed to have few more cracks at net as the game wore on.
Great skill on their goal as their fleet footed winger skinned our wee man with a full meg and hammered a low hard shot from outside the 18 that skipped in on the near post. This guy will only get better as he gets accustomed to early starts. I mean I stood beside him and the garlic breath and the stale "I was out the night before" cologne he was wearing would have likely worn off by his usual playing time of midafternoon in the big leagues.
Not to take away from NAFC's win - but Coveside was struggling for numbers and had to play most of the game with a fullback with a severe hammy pull.
All the boys played with heart and ran for each other right til the end.
Onto next week, when a different 11 will show up and try to hold on for dear life. With inevitable injuries, suspensions, work commitments, and family responsibilities it could be long season.

Norvan 2 Azteca 1
Sloppy game in the rain. Norvan could have had a few more but blew their chances.

Roma 3 warriors 0. Todays game was a lucky one for the Romans as they scored 2 late goals to ice the victory. Warriors started the game short on players but played with heart. They were missing their regular goalie as it showed on Roma's first goal. Roma late in the game got insurance #2 which forced the Warriors to push and that's how Roma's big gun Fozz got his first goal of the game, which made it 3-0. Good luck to the Warriors the rest of the way. Surprising result in the game before as Vikings tied Seymours 0-0 with Seymours having a few break aways late in the game. As for NAFC they are for real and teams not ready to play them will be in for a long 90 mins as they are looking to dominate this year. Feel sorry for who ever plays Coveside next week as they will be upset and looking for revenge!!

well great weekend to start the winter...perennial top finishers coveside vs NAFC at McCartney grass...good game report by stinkey.... just a few points to add..that NAFC was also short players with your truly having to put the boots on at game time to make it 11...2 showed up late and one got hurt so we too had 11 bodies hung over or otherwise..
"Coveside held their own for most of the game with the odd chance while NAFC seemed to have few more cracks at net as the game wore on."
should read "Coveside held on for most of the game with the odd chance while NAFC seemed to have a few more cracks at the net .
4 posts , crossbar ,sitter shot straight at the goalie ,2 just wide and a couple over with one cleared off the line vs one cleared off the line and one save . but its not a game of chances it a game of finishing...so
other than that it was a game that reminded me of a first game of the season.. well have to show up with more numbers and a little earlier if were gonna compete this year. both teams are better than what played out today.
showed up late to catch roma playing against 8 or 9 warriers only to see game abandoned after 3rd roma goal. and conductor? were just looking to compete and play not dominate...that would be you guys .....its only a game....

It was a sloppy Norvan game. For some reaons teams get chance against LV but cant always hit the back of the net...Seymour could have taken all 3 points as the had 2 nice chances to win it with about 15mins to go and in the game of the week the new look, new jersey NAFC took it to Coveside in the 2nd half. After hitting post after post after post finally got the goal they deserved for the win. Reports indicate they will be strong but are beatable
