What the hell happened to Conductor and azzuri? Did the ferry sink? They were both so happy not all that long ago. Well maybe azzuri has never truly been "happy". But hey come on...let the joy return. Must have been a decent weekend for the boys, despite the hard-fought loss. Match report, gents? Who the hell were those guys you played....?

CV went down fighting 2-1 to WV in OT today. Injuries and a short sub bench did them in.
Congrats on a grest season to CV and Roma.
Conductor, and stinky may have a report. I know Sir M has one on TTP, that differs from what I heard(I was stuck working)
WV have to travel to U Vic next week. They may have problems with that game...

WV 2, CVU 1 in Extra Time.
WV typically play the ball well and knock it around the park at pace, and they won't hesitate to tell you that if given the opportunity. Nonetheless, they did play a strong game yesterday at Confed in the BC's quarter finals. The problem they had for the longest time, however, was doing what actually wins games; score goals. Oh, they can kick a ball alright. Finding their mark, however, was made rather difficult on this day. A numbe of shots from distance, off the mark. As such I'll have to give a shout out to my own boys, CVU for their work ethic and team work. For as much as WV pushed it about, these finely groomed men of leisure strangely began to get a little upset at not being up at least couple within the first 45 seconds. Even worse, well into the 2nd half they were behind in the game courtesy of Roddy beating his mark, the WV 'keeper and blasting one short side at about 25 minutes. No doubt West Van enjoyed the majority of the ball on the permiters and CVU needed to be totally alert at all times to deal with their ball movement and quickness. But stay alert they did coutesy of general Draz and a heady coaching tactic. In fact each CVU player was advised during individual pre-game meetings with coach Sammy that any on-field nonchalance or loitering would be cause for a visit to the post-game BBQ for the "spicey sausage treatment." This man has his ways of motivating. Those bratwursts sting like a bugger.
So, indeed, with the day hot and bleachers burgeoning with alcoholics on berry cider, the excitement of old men vying for the right to board a BC Ferry together next weekend held an ever-increasing level of excitement. With CVU up at the half the table was set for a dilly of a second 45. Ya, I said a dilly. WV had come forward well in the first half and been played tough. CVU had defended extremely well. And they had also scored (and were liberally using their entire bench.)
We note, the brief al-Jazeera match report from the Iraqi Minister of Mis-Information on today's TTP. [M]ohammed would have you believe that Ronaldo and Rooney where slicing through the CVU Defense and having their way like a 3-peckered rooster in a hen house throughout the game, with only angels from heaven keeping them from breaking the net. Hmm. CVU 'Keeper Longman (awaiting surgery for a completely blown knee, BTW) indeed did quite well on the day. But he's done better. Still, our venerable Longman did not miraculously ping away "dozens", of chances as have been suggested. He wasn't miraculaous at saving a bakers "dozen" or even half a "dozen" great WV chances with his halo. It's much more likely, in fact, that he ate a dozen Tim Horton's Apple Fritters before the match. As far as the real game went he did outreach all WV heads throughout the day to pick off most crosses and assorted balls swung in searching for targets of men in blue. And he did make a COUPLE of amazing saves on two shots, one of which was in the extra time whilst lying on the turf, looking as if he'd just fallen out of his wheelchair. But a dozen? [M]ohammed? Ever the kidder! Back to Baghdad....but we digress.
On about 65 minutes, a blue guy who was screaming bloody murder at his own boys in the first half because "We're not getting it DONE!" goes up for a ball he can't really get to....but what an effort; at least 5 inches of the Confed turf, which was 3 inches higher than our Randy Ash who was marking closely. And what went up "miraculously" crashed down ala Ryan Kesler, in shame. The real shame was the ref saw it as less than a miracle and with the PK called Blue Gavin finshes to draw the game at 1-1.
While CVU's work ethic and finely crafted defensive strategy held WV to few real chances, (but plenty of ideas) CVU countered in a calculating manner. But not all that often in the second half having lost an effective outside mid and the days goal-getter to injury. Thus for the sake of surprise, sporadic attacks at the shaky 3-man WV defense were in order. If, as Al-Jazeera reports on TTP, CVU actually had "only two shots on goal", then one of them was the pretty nice first-half goal, dude! The other alleged shot came off a clean CVU breakaway in extra time when our own Gavin "sliced" his way past several ex-pro's in an effort to even a now uneven score, only to blow his load early and pooch his effort straight into the WV 'keepers" manly stomach. Indeed, WV had gone up one at 102 minutes with a close-in scramble off a corner tap-in, which put the well-oiled and highly conditioned CVU machine into action. Indeed, the BBQ was lit.
In second 15 of the extra time there was the aforementioned great save by one-legged Longman, with the remaining minutes finishing off with WV standing on the ball at the corner flags. 2-1 final with the better of the two teams getting the result on the day.
WV play very quality ball. CVU defended in kind and were willing to push the ball through their skilled midfielders when the opportunity presented itself. WV made a questionable PK call count, and they moved the ball with skill in their own 2/3's of the pitch over the course of most of the match. They also made life difficult for CVU with their pace and effort. They actually look like they might be new members at Club 16. But there were no gimme's on either end of the pitch, and by the games end WV were worthy. With a few of our major players unavailable this day, as can be the case with any team, CVU gave their best, and offered few good goal scoring opportunities to their opposition.
For a squad that started playing together as a team only 8 months ago we're happy for this season, and the recent Provincial Cup experience. Our next move is to attend an afternoon inspirational seminar on a deck in the sun, get ruined and really get to know one another. Great fun.
Good luck in Victoria to West Van.

Great report Shafting! Yes the better team did win. It is fortunate for WVan- because I can only imagine what a story it would have had to have been to be beaten by a team with several 50 year old defenders and the decisive goal in overtime coming from a guy who weighs in at a buck twenty-who by the way until two years ago never played organized soccer (not sure if co-ed lunch time team building with your fellow computer geeks counts or is in the same league as the 86ers ). Ooh the shame - the shame. Would have loved to have been there but my wife decided to be born 40 years ago on game day- needless to say Vegas was great but would have preferred to have been there to try and beat the mighty WVan. Instead saw an interesting show www2.b3ta.com/bigquiz/trannyorgranny/
